According to the Texas Oilman T. Boone Pickens, Natural Gas is the short-term answer to reduce our dependency on foreign oil. He believes that we can use Wind Power to generate enough demand to power our homes freeing up enough natural gas for use in our cars and heavy duty trucks. This is only "a bridge" until we can find a more efficient way to power our vehicles and is the best way to stop sending our precious dollars ($700 billion / year) to countries in the Middle East who are not fond of us!
Also, the port of Los Angeles has mandated that all of their trucks and heavy equipment be powered by Natural Gas in order to reduce pollution and costs. This trend will soon be implemented in all the ports nationwide launching a massive new support industry.
Small cars may eventually switch over entirely to electric, but electric power is not strong enough for heavy industry. This is a long-term structural bet!
